When you look at Riley, the right combination of impeccable bloodlines, powerful conformation, and incredible speed is obvious. But what you can't see from a photograph is what it's like to be around him, and work with him every day. His amazingly sweet dispostion definitely sets him apart from any other stallion we've ever worked with.
As an unbroke two-year-old, he was quietly toting our-year-old nephew around on his bare back. His first time under saddle was as if he'd been ridden all his life. He loves to be brushed, played with, and handled, whether he's in or out of his stall. No matter what situation he's put in, he always approaches it with a calm demeanor, putting full trust in his handler at all times. Everyone that meets him can't believe he's really a stallion!
Riley is the first horse to greet with a quiet, gentle look when you walk in the door of the barn. He's stalled next to a mare 365 days out of the year, and you never hear a single sound coming from him. When you go in to clean his stall, you just have to take a minute out of your busy day to play with him. From the farrier to the vet to the barn visitors, everyone loves Riley! And each spring when his new foals begin arriving, we're sure he knows they're "his".... With each new birth he peers out of his stall like an anxious father, and often tries to visit the stalls of his foals when you're leading him down the aisleway.
The best part about all of this? He passes on 100% of his quiet disposition (not the mention is excellent conformation and movement!) to each and every foal that he sires. Since his first colt hit the ground back in 2002, Riley has been making carbon copies of himself in both the colts and the fillies! Each one of them has a fantastic personality, easy-going attitude, and gorgeous conformation - not to mention incredible speed and athletic ability!
One of the neat things about Riley is that you can't hear the sound of his hooves when he passes you by on a lunge line. Even when he's thundering up and down the hillside in the stud run outside, he barely grazes the ground with his hooves. It's almost like watching a ballerina. All of his foals, we've learned, have that very same characteristic when they move! Incredible! And while we originally began breeding Riley as strictly a speed horse producer, at least three of his offspring will be making a very big splash in the hunter rings as well, including Show Me The Moolah.
We're just as excited about Riley's 2007 foals as we were about the very first one! Each foal born year after year exhibits the same characteristics as their sire - incredible intelligence, fantastic body structure, boldness of character and best of all, they're extremely fast learners!
